Joining The Mead School
Joining The Mead School is a very simple process.
Personal tours and taster days
You may already have visited the school on one of our termly Open Days. We will also invite you for a personal tour, when you will see the ethos of the school in action, what pro-active and creative learning looks like within and beyond the classroom, and how our children benefit from excellent teaching staff, facilities and resources. You will be able to discuss any specific questions you have with our Headmistress Catherine Openshaw, and discover how an education here will support and challenge your son or daughter. Your child will also be invited to a taster day.
Registration
At that point, if you wish your child to join us at The Mead School, we will ask you to fill out a registration form and pay a Registration Fee of £50 and a Deposit of £500 (which is returned on the last day less any extras incurred). In addition, there is a commitment deposit of £750 which is credited against the first term’s fees (in the main school).
You will then be sent a formal confirmation of your child’s place at school.
Transition sessions
Of course, it is important that your child is as confident about their move to The Mead as you are, and we do everything we can to make them feel part of the family from the very beginning. Children joining in Reception take part in transition sessions during the summer term, an opportunity to meet their teacher and classmates, and familiarise themselves with school ahead of starting in September. Children starting at other entry points will also have opportunities to join their classes for taster days, and will be paired up with a buddy to assist them.
Your child will also receive an invitation to our New Children’s Morning (Reception-Year 6), held every year in June, in which all pupils move into their September classes and have the opportunity to meet their new teacher and classmates. The morning is a great way of helping new pupils to feel part of the school community and familiarise themselves with the geography of the school and structure of the school day.
Joining in KS2
We have many children join us in KS2. We aim to make the transition as smooth as possible. Children starting in older year groups will also have opportunities to join their classes for taster days, with buddies to welcome them and show them the ropes.
If you would like to come and see us, our Registrar, Elizabeth Winter, would be delighted to arrange a tour for you.
