Anti-bullying week

“Kindness gives birth to kindness”

Sophocles

Bullying affects millions of lives, but it doesn’t have to. If we challenge it, we can change it by reaching out; the theme for this year’s anti-bullying week! That is why we proudly take part in the anti-bullying week each year.

On Monday, the children (and staff alike) celebrated their differences by wearing odd socks, helping identify how unique we all are!

In assembly, we discussed the importance of

  • speaking out if we notice unkindness
  • being kind to everyone through our words and actions
  • including others in our games and conversations
  • treating others with respect
  • celebrating differences

In PHSEE lessons in KS1, our aims were to:

  • understand the school definition of bullying;
  • explore the idea of reaching out and how we can reach out to others throughout school life;
  • think about how you can support someone you see being bullied.

In PSHEE lessons in KS2, our aims were to:

  • understand the different roles involved in a bullying scenario;
  • explore the idea of reaching out and how we can reach out to others throughout school life;
  • ask the question, ‘Do bystanders make bullying worse?’ (using the Votes for Schools resources)

On Wednesday, the Shooting Star Performance Company – a travelling theatre group, visited to perform at the EYFS Department- Zorg and Zarg Find Friends. The rest of the school will receive their workshop on Monday 21st November.

Zorg and Zarg are having a problem on their home planet – the aliens just are not very friendly. They don’t know how to see! Zorg and Zarg have come here to find out what makes a good friend and they need your help.

This has been kindly funded by Friends Of the Mead.
