Day in the Life of a Pre-Reception

Life in Pre-Reception is a journey of adventure and discovery in a safe and encouraging environment. All the children have settled in well and have developed little bonds of friendship to serve them through the school years to come.

School Morning

A Pre-Reception child arrives by 8:40 am, ready for registration and settling into the day before attending school assembly or child-led learning time. By 9 am, lessons start with a dynamic curriculum consisting of Maths, Phonics, PSHEE, Music, French, RE, PE, Art and Understanding the World. The children go to lunch at 11.45 am with various delicious and nutritious options available to them. Literacy is a daily staple, with guided reading, show and tell, phonics learning, letter formation/writing practice and recall. Maths takes place throughout the week to form those basic numeracy skill!

School Afternoon

Each child is expected to attend some afternoons to prepare for the full school days in Reception. Afternoon activities range from Ballet, Climbing, Woodwork, and Role Play. An afternoon snack is given before story and sing time before leaving school at 3.45 pm. Children can stay on until 5.30 and attend Munch Bunch (our after-school tea time club for later pickups).

Specialist Teaching

PE is taught by specialist teachers, where the children can enjoy a variety of sports and games, improving their hand-eye coordination and physical abilities. Madam Sinead teaches French weekly to the children, which exposes them to learning other languages at an early age. Music with Mr Harley is often a favourite of Pre-Reception, occurring twice weekly, as they enjoy exploring new instruments and music fundamentals (and being noisy together!).
