Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake, Cuckoo Clock!

Early Years follow the ‘in-the-moment planning’ framework, allowing children to choose their interests whilst talented teachers interweave learning opportunities. Inspired by their enthusiasm for Cuckoo Clocks, Pre-Reception decided they would make their own clocks, leading to thought-provoking discussions;  When does Cuckoo appear? What are the numbers on a clock face? Why do we need clocks?

They decided, in the moment, they must celebrate Cuckoo’s birthday, which led the children to bake their own cake.
They carefully followed a recipe, making sure to measure all the ingredients. The little bakers were so inspired that they made mud cakes together outside during their playtime.
