Redwoods, Rhododendrons, and Monkey Puzzle Trees – Y1 Riverhill Himalayan Gardens Trip
Y1 visited the Riverhill Himalayan Gardens, Sevenoaks, during one of the most beautiful times of the year. Redwoods, Rhododendrons, and Monkey Puzzle Trees were abundant during our school trip on Monday. Sarah, our educational tour guide, told us of her family history dating back hundreds of years ago. She explained how John Rogers (Sarah’s ancestor) was a great botanist, one of the founding members of the Royal Horticultural Society, and a friend of Charles Darwin. His passion for the newly discovered rhododendrons and azaleas from the East led him to choose to purchase Riverhill, and since then, four generations of the Roger family have lived there.
The children loved exploring the grounds; they built dens, played in the maze, ate lunch on the hill, and explored the beautiful gardens. A fabulous trip, enjoyed by all!
