OPEN DAY AT THE MEAD SCHOOL

Our Town, Our School

Open Day: Friday 8 May

At The Mead School, children grow up surrounded not only by inspiring teachers and friendly classmates, but by an entire town that becomes part of their learning.

Inside our four-storey Victorian villa, every child is known and nurtured. Outside, their education stretches across 105 acres of Tunbridge Wells – a town with a wealth of opportunities.

Because our town is more than a backdrop.
It’s a teacher, a playground, a stage.

Our sports grounds are second to none; junior athletes play cricket at the Nevill Cricket Club, hockey at Hawkenbury Astro and rugby and football at Bayham Fields. Our stage is professional; each year, our outstanding drama department puts on five performances at the Trinity Theatre and five celebrations at King Charles the Martyr Church, while our choirs sing for shoppers in the Pantiles. Year 3s discover the wonders of geology at the sandstone formation of Wellington Rocks, and at the Amelia Scott library, children have the freedom to explore the magical world of books, and take individual music lessons.

If Tunbridge Wells is your town too, we would love to be your school.

Join us on Friday 8 May to discover how The Mead School is the school in the heart of Tunbridge Wells, with fantastic opportunities leading to outstanding outcomes for our pupils.

In January 2026, The Mead was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. We are delighted that they recognise that ‘the school provides a warm, caring, and inclusive community of which pupils and staff are proud to belong. Leaders and staff prioritise knowing pupils as individuals and ensure that their wellbeing is paramount.’

Alongside this nurturing environment, the report identifies our commitment to academic standards. ‘Leaders provide a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum that supports pupils’ academic, creative and personal development. Curriculum planning is structured and sequenced so that it supports pupils to build knowledge and skills securely over time.’

What to expect at our Open Day

On an Open Day you will be welcomed by our friendly Admissions staff before meeting the Head, Catherine Openshaw. You will also have the chance to talk to current parents and ask them about their experience at The Mead School.

Next, one of our confident, articulate Year 6 pupils will take you on a tour of the school to experience all the exciting learning taking place in the classrooms and beyond. We encourage you to ask them whatever you like. Their answers will be candid and honest.

Finally, you are invited to enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake in the Hall, meet some of our subject-expert staff, and talk to our Admissions staff again, who will be able to answer any further questions you have.
