Big Thinking Starts Small
At The Mead School, Royal Tunbridge Wells
At The Mead School, we believe the most extraordinary journeys begin with the smallest steps. Our small class sizes, experienced expert teachers, and a nurturing environment where every child is truly seen, spark a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

A warm welcome
Our Early Years team ensures that each child has a supported transition into school life. We offer settling-in sessions, opportunities to explore the classroom with parents, and time to build trusted relationships with teachers and new friends. Children quickly feel safe and supported. And for parents, our thriving school community is a warm and welcoming bunch! With all our pupils under one roof, children from different age groups naturally mix and grow together, building a strong sense of community and becoming a real school family.
A big curriculum for small learners
Our Early Years curriculum is rich, broad and balanced. Every day is filled with opportunities to explore, create and ask questions. Our children also benefit from specialist teaching in Forest School, Languages, Music and PE. We focus on the individual, helping them to develop socially, emotionally, and intellectually at their own pace. It’s a brilliant springboard to bigger and more exciting challenges!
“We have had three children lucky enough to attend The Mead. All starting in the warm hug of Pre-Reception. We could have not asked for a better start in life for our children.”

Royal Tunbridge Wells is our campus
We’re proud to be in the centre of a beautiful town, and we take our learning beyond the classroom walls. Throughout the school, our students make use of local playing fields, the Trinity Theatre, King Charles the Martyr Church, Bayham Sports Grounds, Hawkenbury Astro and Hargate Forest. This outward-facing approach gives children rich experiences, and shows them that learning happens everywhere.
Skilled, experienced and caring staff
At the heart of The Mead School is our team of warm, skilled and highly experienced staff. Our Early Years teachers understand exactly how young children learn best. Small class sizes give us the time and space to focus on every child, to plant the seeds of ideas that will transform their world, and to help them build the skills to allow them to achieve whatever they want.
Building strong foundations
Pre-Reception is a time when children are learning about the world around them. When big thinking starts with the smallest discoveries. From exploring mini beasts, to planting seeds and watching them grow. This is when children start asking the big questions about how the world works. These are the building blocks to lifelong learning. It’s in these early moments that our individualised teaching sets the tone for everything that follows.
And this is just the beginning of something much, much bigger. Growing through the school, pupils develop into confident, capable learners who are well prepared and eager for the next stage, whether that’s grammar or independent senior school. The strong foundations laid at the very beginning of their time with us become the stepping stones to success in Year 6 and far beyond.
We know that family life is busy, which is why we offer wrap-around care that gives working parents the flexibility they need. From early morning drop offs to stimulating after-school clubs.
