Our Journey to Sustainability
Our school is dedicated to creating a greener future by championing sustainability and environmental responsibility. We inspire our children to become eco-heroes by integrating sustainability into their daily learning experiences, empowering them to make a real difference.
Educating the children
Our comprehensive approach to sustainability education spans multiple subjects, including teaching environmental topics in Geography and exploring eco-friendly innovations in STEM. For example, children engage in hands-on projects like building eco-models and understanding renewable energy solutions. This cross-curricular emphasis across all year groups ensures that every child learns how to positively impact the environment.
Beyond the classroom, we take concrete steps to reduce our ecological footprint. We educate children and staff about the importance of turning off lights, recycling and conserving resources. All of our papers are environmentally friendly.
Solar panel installation
We have installed thermostatic radiator valves to optimise heating and improve energy efficiency, and we have fitted solar panels to harness the sun’s energy to power our school.
Here’s why we’re going solar:
Environmental Impact: By harnessing the power of the sun, we’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Cost Savings: Solar energy will help reduce our electricity bills, allowing us to redirect those funds towards enhancing educational resources.
Community: We are a school that is driven to make a change in our community.
Cycle to school
Friends of The Mead and our estate team have installed a new bike shed, providing ample space for bike storage and promoting greener, more sustainable travel options for children coming to school.
Meat-free Monday
In addition, we have introduced Meat-Free Mondays across our school to lower our carbon footprint.
