The Mead School Named Best Junior Production in National ISA Awards
National Recognition for The Mead School’s Award-Winning Production of Skellig
The Mead School is proud to announce a remarkable success at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) National Drama Awards, with our production of Skellig being named Best Junior Production.
This prestigious national award recognises the highest standards of performance, creativity and theatrical excellence amongst independent schools across the country. To be awarded Best Junior Production is an exceptional achievement and reflects the ambition, talent and dedication that define the performing arts at The Mead.
Further success followed with one of our Year 6 performers receiving the Convincing Characterisation Award, together with an Honourable Mention in the Individual Performer category—a significant accolade in a field of outstanding young performers from across the independent sector.
The Judges commented ” a strong sense of atmosphere”, highlighting “several confident performances; Tabitha as Mum showed strong projection and effective vocal variation, as did Toby, the actor portraying Skellig, and Oliver as Michael was a strong and believable lead” and a finale that “demonstrated excellent teamwork”. They concluded that Skellig was “a heartfelt and collaborative performance”.
Based on David Almond’s celebrated novel, Skellig challenged pupils to engage with complex themes through nuanced performance, imaginative storytelling and emotional maturity. The resulting production was a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when creativity, commitment and expert guidance come together.
These awards are a testament not only to the exceptional talents of our pupils, but also to the culture of opportunity and aspiration that underpins life at The Mead. From the earliest years, pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, curiosity and a willingness to embrace challenge – qualities that were evident throughout this production.
To receive national recognition from the ISA is a considerable honour. For our pupils to be celebrated both collectively and individually makes this achievement all the more special.
We extend our warmest congratulations to every member of the cast and production team whose hard work, professionalism and enthusiasm brought Skellig to life with such distinction.
A national title. Individual honours. An unforgettable achievement for The Mead School.
