What is World Book Day?
World Book Day is an annual celebration that aims to promote reading and inspire a love for literature in children and young people across the globe. It encourages children to explore new books, characters, and stories, helping to foster a lifelong passion for reading. This year, The Mead School took the celebration to the next level bringing different characters to life. What a day!
The festivities kicked off with a fun and engaging game of ‘Guess the Teacher,’ where staff members read extracts from their favourite books. The children had to guess which teacher was behind each reading—a fantastic way to mix up the usual routine and spark some literary curiosity. They had a blast acting out their characters in performing arts, stepping into the shoes of heroes and villains alike. Next, they tackled thrilling sports obstacles, where each challenge was inspired by a book’s wild adventure. They sketched epic scenes from the books that captured their imagination. Early Years enjoyed baking lion cookies and making lion masks. Year 2 made their own chocolate inspired from ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory. It was a day packed with action, creativity, and endless fun, all woven together by the magic of storytelling!
An Author Visit
But the excitement didn’t stop there! The children were then treated to a visit from none other than Christopher Lloyd, the brilliant author of non-fiction books like A History of Everything. His fascinating insights into the world around us captivated the young minds, encouraging them to see history and facts through a new, exciting lens.
Inspired Lunch
As if that wasn’t enough, an inspiring lunch awaited them! The menu was fit for literary legends. SuperTato, a quirky superhero, made an appearance with his favourite dishes and Fantastic Fox’s chicken fajitas. And, of course, Dumbledore’s favourite fruit salad made a magical addition to the meal.
World Book Day at The Mead wasn’t just a celebration—it was an immersive experience that brought books, imagination, and fun together in perfect harmony. A truly special immersive day to promote a love of reading!
