Subject Spotlight: Year 3 Science
Science is vital as it helps children develop critical thinking, curiosity and an understanding of the world around them. From Year 4 onwards, science is taught by specialist teachers, ensuring children continue to build their knowledge and skills with expert guidance.
Year 3 has explored the fascinating world of volcanoes and earthquakes in their science lessons! The subject was brought to life through fun, interactive and hands-on activities.
The journey began with creating models of the Earth’s layers using jelly, helping the pupils understand the Earth’s composition memorably. Next, they investigated the tectonic plates that shape our planet and learned how their movement causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
To wrap up the topic, the year group enjoyed an immersive workshop day. They discovered why these natural phenomena occur and their effects on the world and explored real-life examples to enhance their understanding. They greatly enjoyed being ‘news reporters’ in these examples, taking different roles from presenters to reporters.
