The School Library – A Tranquil Space
Our school library is a truly special place. It’s a space where children can unwind, develop a love for reading and gain skills that will serve them for life. The library has wonderful floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the playground and woodland; truly providing a relaxing and calming presence. Each year has scheduled lesson time in the library timetable to promote a love of reading.
Here’s why dedicated library time is so beneficial:

Imagination and creativity
By experiencing a world beyond our own we develop our imagination, how to think outside the box and absorb ourselves in a world beyond our own – like a moment in history, or another culture.
Access to trusted, valid learning content
Our library is stocked with a wide and ever-updating selection of books. From current news, magazines like ‘The Week Junior’ to subjects the children are studying in class, children have access to reliable and accurate information, fostering critical thinking and informed learning.
Building essential life skills
By learning how to navigate the library—borrowing, organising and returning books—children gain valuable operational and independence skills that help them become more responsible. The library is organised by key stage with books tailored for every level and reader. There are opportunities for the children to become ‘librarians’ who assist with running the school library.
A quiet space for downtime
Amidst a busy school day, the library offers a calm and quiet environment where children can relax and recharge. Whether they are absorbed in a book, catching up on work, or enjoying some mindful colouring, this dedicated downtime is an essential part of their routine.
Each year group has allocated lunchtime ‘Library Club’ (if they want to go) to ensure every child has the opportunity to enjoy this enriching space.
